2009 Legislative Agenda Input Wanted:

The 2009 session will be here  soon, and the MACA legislative committee wants your input into the legislative changes needed.

So far this is a working list:

#Felony Provision to include Spectators in Animal Fighting:  ( spectators were included in the heading of the

existing text...but were somehow deleted from the wording in the codified law)

# A revisiting of the Animal Bonding Provision: The existing MCA has not been utilized by prosecutors and we need to fix it so it will be used by them:

#  Some type of Puppy Mill / animal facility minimum standard and inspection statute:

#  Some wording defining a hoarder situation and remedy

# Dual listing of prairie dogs as both species of special concern and Ag Pest:

# Veterinarian Good Samaritan Law ( liability waiver for reporting cruelty)

We will probably only be able to actively support 2-3 bills so we will be asking for MACA member priority at the Friday Night MACA Dinner at the Helena Training in April.   After August 15th it will be difficult for MACA to research and develop good draft bills - so any late or randomly introduced bills may have difficulty being sponsored and supported by MACA. So get your comments in ASAP.
